Incorporated in 1983, Lupin Ltd is amongst top six pharmaceutical companies in India. Company is basically engaged in manufacturing and marketing of active pharmaceutical ingredients ( i.e Ethambutol (anti-TB), Cephalosporins (anti-infectives) and cardiovasculars) and formulations. However,company dominates in the anti-TB segment with a market share of 45%. Company is having 10 API/ intermediates and finished products facilities across 5 different bases in India. Manufacturing facilities of the company are installed in Mandideep, Tarapur, Aurangabad, Ankleshwar and Goa. Lupin is first Indian pharmaceutical company that has been granted an exclusive license in order to market its branded finished product Suprax in the US.

Recently,Company signed a strategic alliance with Ascend Therapeutics Inc. , a Women’s Health sales force in order to promote Suprax 4mg tablets in US. Also, company has entered into the strategic collaboration with Apollo hospitals group, to create the first Disease Management Programme (DMP) for Bronchial Asthma and COPD (Chronic Bronchitis) under the name of Apollo’s ‘BreatheEasy Clinic’ RPT ‘BreatheEasy Clinic. It is expected that this joint venture would open 40 clinic centers over a period of four years in metropolitian, two and three tier cities as well. During this quarter, Company has launched the generic version of Ramipril, a hypertension drug in the market. Japanese markets contributed 10 per cent to the company's overall revenue.

Lupin reported a substantial rise in its standalone net profit for the first quarter ended June 2008. During the quarter, the profit of the company rose 38.45% to Rs 108.52 crore from Rs 78.38 crore in the same quarter, previous year. Company reported an earnings of Rs 13.22 per share during the quarter as against Rs 9.73 per share, registering a hike of 35.87% over prior year period. Net sales of the company for the quarter ended June,2008 surged by 18.39% to Rs 712.42 crore as against Rs 601.75 crore for the quarter ended June,2007 while its total income during this time period rose 18.53% to Rs 731.23 crore when compared with Rs 616.89 crore during the prior year period. However, expenditure of the company during April-June, 2008 quarter increases to Rs 574.75 crore against Rs 497.67 crore in the same quarter a year back.

However, on consolidated basis company posted a phenomenal 100.50 % surge in its net profit for the quarter ended June 2008 to Rs 112.04 crore as against Rs 55.88 crore for the quarter ended June 2007 while its total income during this time period stood at Rs 882.47 crore when compared with Rs 591.65 crore during Q1 FY08, registering a growth of 49.15 per cent.

During the quarter,Company earned a revenue of Rs 517.5 crore from its overseas business registered a hike of 88 % over prior year period. It's domestic formulation business grew by 25 % while the advanced markets formulation business in the US and Europe witnessed a hike of 69 %. Company has shown a tremendous rise in the share price as well. A year back in August 2007 its share price was Rs 625.05 and in December 2007 it came down to Rs 528.60. Its shared price in the year 2008 started at Rs 624.95 , in April 2008 it dipped to Rs 486.20 . But after that it is regaining its previous state and reached to Rs 679.40 in June 2008. At the end of the day, the stock is closed at Rs 720.30.

However, Expenditure of the company during April-June, 2008 increases to Rs 111.50 crore from Rs 75.17 crore last year.

Company posted annual sales of Rs 359 crore in Financial year 2007-08, up from Rs 304 crore in last fiscal i.e 2006-07. The board of directors of NOCIL Limited, in a meeting has recommended a dividend of 5% for the year ended March 31, 2008.

Over the years, Gree Electronics has researched & developed its unique cutting edge technology, such as intelligent body sensor air-conditioner, carbon-oxygen detector, intellectual ice-controller, variable frequency multi-unites air-conditioner, EVI low temperature starting system; and applied these technologies into its new products. Consequently, Gree air-conditioners immediately grasped the customers’ attention and gained profound market share. Gree’s new products have been leading the main stream of the Air-conditioner industry since year 2007.

To accommodates its big demand Gree Electronics had to expand and its manufacturing capacity. Hence, the manufacture site in Hefei finished construction and started operation in first half of year 2008. The stock of Gree Electronic has been regarded as top ten ‘Golden’ stocks in the beginning of the year, however, since May 2008, the stock performance has been rather depressing. Despite the fact that market has under-estimated the company’s summer sales in air-conditioners after Met Department’s forecasting of a cool & rainy summer this year, the overall increase of the company’s operational costs is the actual key reason of investors’ reducing interests and losing confidence in this stock. But uncontrollable factors such as increase in raw material prices, increase in labor costs, increase in income tax and appreciation in Chinese currency which is also one of the main drawbacks for all the exporting businesses, like Gree, accumulated together has increased company’s overall costs and the consequence of these factors will probably last longer than one would anticipate.

To conclude, it is undoubtedly remains a decent stock but is no longer a ‘golden’ time for investing in this stock. I would suggest that short term investors can still pay attention to this stock as the stock has almost reached its bottom, and will possibly have small range increment in the near future, but it is still risky. For better and safer returns, investors are suggested to not rush into this stock at this moment in time. For existing shareholders, it is necessary to be very patient and should definitely not buy-in more of this shares and it would be still right to hope to level the loss.
