Incorporated in 1983, Lupin Ltd is amongst top six pharmaceutical companies in India. Company is basically engaged in manufacturing and marketing of active pharmaceutical ingredients ( i.e Ethambutol (anti-TB), Cephalosporins (anti-infectives) and cardiovasculars) and formulations. However,company dominates in the anti-TB segment with a market share of 45%. Company is having 10 API/ intermediates and finished products facilities across 5 different bases in India. Manufacturing facilities of the company are installed in Mandideep, Tarapur, Aurangabad, Ankleshwar and Goa. Lupin is first Indian pharmaceutical company that has been granted an exclusive license in order to market its branded finished product Suprax in the US.

Recently,Company signed a strategic alliance with Ascend Therapeutics Inc. , a Women’s Health sales force in order to promote Suprax 4mg tablets in US. Also, company has entered into the strategic collaboration with Apollo hospitals group, to create the first Disease Management Programme (DMP) for Bronchial Asthma and COPD (Chronic Bronchitis) under the name of Apollo’s ‘BreatheEasy Clinic’ RPT ‘BreatheEasy Clinic. It is expected that this joint venture would open 40 clinic centers over a period of four years in metropolitian, two and three tier cities as well. During this quarter, Company has launched the generic version of Ramipril, a hypertension drug in the market. Japanese markets contributed 10 per cent to the company's overall revenue.
Lupin reported a substantial rise in its standalone net profit for the first quarter ended June 2008. During the quarter, the profit of the company rose 38.45% to Rs 108.52 crore from Rs 78.38 crore in the same quarter, previous year. Company reported an earnings of Rs 13.22 per share during the quarter as against Rs 9.73 per share, registering a hike of 35.87% over prior year period. Net sales of the company for the quarter ended June,2008 surged by 18.39% to Rs 712.42 crore as against Rs 601.75 crore for the quarter ended June,2007 while its total income during this time period rose 18.53% to Rs 731.23 crore when compared with Rs 616.89 crore during the prior year period. However, expenditure of the company during April-June, 2008 quarter increases to Rs 574.75 crore against Rs 497.67 crore in the same quarter a year back.

During the quarter,Company earned a revenue of Rs 517.5 crore from its overseas business registered a hike of 88 % over prior year period. It's domestic formulation business grew by 25 % while the advanced markets formulation business in the US and Europe witnessed a hike of 69 %. Company has shown a tremendous rise in the share price as well. A year back in August 2007 its share price was Rs 625.05 and in December 2007 it came down to Rs 528.60. Its shared price in the year 2008 started at Rs 624.95 , in April 2008 it dipped to Rs 486.20 . But after that it is regaining its previous state and reached to Rs 679.40 in June 2008. At the end of the day, the stock is closed at Rs 720.30.
