PTC India Ltd formerly known as Power Trading Corporation of India Ltd. was established by Ministry of Power with four Central PSUs such as NTPC, POWERGRID, NHPC & PFC, is pioneer in field of starting a power market in India. PTC today is not just the leading power trader in the country, but has also diversified into the unique role of being a Complete Energy Solutions Provider and enjoys more than 70% of the market share of power trading in India.Company is basically engaged in activities like long term and short term trading of power generated from power projects and sells power mainly to industrial and bulk consumers as well as to various State utilities thereby having largest customer base in trading arena. In 2006, the company started coal intermediation services in addition to other advisory services for the power sector. PTC also run its operations in Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. 

Power Trading Corporation of India Ltd, picked up 11 per cent equity in 1,200 MW Teesta Urja project in Sikkim after a venture into wind energy generation by commissioning its first 6 MW wind farm project at Sinnar, Nashik in Maharashtra. During the January-March quarter, PTC raised Rs 1,200 crore through the QIP route and would use the earnings for enhancing capital adequacy, capitalisation of PTC Financial Services and investment in fuel intermediation.The company has added 5280 MW under the various MoU’s signed in the last quarter ended March 31, 2008 taking the cumulative MoU’s to 28469 MW. During the quarter, It signed two MoUs  with IREDA and PFSL for sale of power aggregating to 325 mw.

Power trading firm PTC India Ltd has posted a massive rise of 231 per cent in its Net profit after tax to Rs 19.22 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 as against Rs 5.8 crore in the corresponding period a year ago i.e quarter ended March 31,2007 where as  Profit Before Tax for the quarter was up by 194% to Rs 21.53 crore when compared with Rs 7.33 crore in Jan- March quarter of previous year.However, Net Sales of the company during the present quarter decreased by 9% to Rs. 546.60 crore as compared to Rs. 602.48 crore reported in the corresponding quarter last year while the total income during the quarter stood at Rs 565.95 crore, lower by 6.52 per cent from Rs 605.40 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Expenditure of the company during the quarter stood at Rs 544.24 crore as against Rs 597.72 crore in the corresponding period last year.

As far as yearly results are concerned, company reported a 39 per cent surge in its profit after tax for the year ended March 31, 2008 to Rs 48.7 crore as against Rs 35.09 crore in the previous fiscal i.e 2006-07.  Net Sales of the company for the year ended March 31, 2008 surged by 4% to Rs 3609.15 crore while Total income of the company during the year zoomed 4.31 per cent to Rs 3,949.02 crore.
